This is our biggest update yet. Chapter 4: Override has arrived, and the Sprite Field Guide is ready for it, with a whole new season to collect. Before anything else, though, the important bit: your Chapter 3 collection is completely safe. Here’s everything that’s new.
Your Chapter 3 collection is safe
Let’s get the big worry out of the way first. Adding a new season hasn’t touched your existing progress in any way. Every sprite you’ve collected and mastered in Chapter 3 is exactly where you left it, and all your backup files still restore just as they always have. Nothing was migrated, moved or rewritten behind the scenes. And if you’re still on an older version of the app for a day or two while the update reaches you, don’t worry: your collection stays intact throughout. You don’t need to do a thing.
Two seasons, one field guide
The Field Guide now tracks more than one season. You’ll find season tabs at the top of the page, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, each with its own live count so you can see where you stand in each at a glance. Every season keeps its own collection progress and mastery bars, clearly labelled so the numbers are never in any doubt, and the app remembers which season you were last looking at when you come back. Switching between them is a single tap.
Meet the Chapter 4 line-up
Chapter 4: Override brings twelve new creatures to hunt down: Bush, Adventure, Jonesy, 8-Bit and Storm Scout, then Shadow, Tails, Killswitch and Sonic, with Jackrabbit, and Klombo and Crown rounding things off at the top end. Each launches with three variants to collect: Base, Gold and the new Cheat Master, giving you thirty-six new variants to chase across the season (with more on the way, we’re sure). And just like the Runners before them, Override sprites can be mastered too, so there’s plenty to keep you busy.
Your rank carries across
Your player title takes both seasons into account, so opening Chapter 4 for the first time won’t cost you the rank you’ve earned, and you won’t see milestone celebrations you’ve already unlocked firing again. Badges are tracked per season, so Chapter 4 starts you off with a fresh set to earn, and the progression page has the same season tabs and headings so everything stays easy to follow.
A fresh Chapter 4 look
To mark the new season, the app has taken on the colours of Chapter 4. There’s new header artwork drawn from the season’s key art, with Klombo, Tails, Sonic, Shadow and Crown lined up across the top and Sonic taking centre stage. The palette has shifted, inspired by Sonic’s Green Hill Zone, as a nod to Sonic the Hedgehog, who headlines the Battle Pass this season!
Sharing keeps up
Your shared images now show whichever season you’re viewing, and they’re stamped with the season name so a Chapter 4 field note can never be mistaken for a Chapter 3 one. Everything else you’re used to about sharing works exactly as before.
