A Magical Switch-On Evening
Last night, Tom and Ali attended the annual Christmas Lights switch-on event, joining the Portishead community to celebrate the start of the festive season. The evening was filled with fantastic entertainment and wonderful community spirit as our town lit up in spectacular fashion.
50 Years of Festive Magic
Since 1974, Portishead Christmas Lights has been run entirely by volunteers committed to making our town as festive as possible. What started as a community effort to preserve the town’s Christmas display has grown into a ‘Golden Mile’ of festive illumination, spanning the High Street, West Hill and the Waitrose Piazza.
Each year, over 100 volunteers brave all kinds of weather to install and maintain the lights. The annual cost of approximately £25,000 is met through a combination of grants from Portishead Town Council and local fundraising efforts, demonstrating the incredible dedication of our community.
